All hotels in Aruba have free-lance babysitters listed at their concierge desk.
Major hotels like Hyatt, Radisson or Marriott do background checks and require CPR-training from their sitters. Smaller hotels just have a list of names and phone numbers.
The concierge will make your dinner- or activities reservations and can arrange your babysitter. You can do this while in Aruba, or you can email your hotel in advance.
Be specific about what you are looking for, so you will get a sitter who is appropriate for your child’s needs and energy level. Some hotels will allow their employees to babysit in the evenings, just remember they might be tired after a day of work so if your child has lots of energy you might want to look for someone more rested.
Some hotels (Marriott for instance) will not allow employees to babysit for liability reasons.
Tell your concierge what kind of help you are looking for.
For instance:
* You just need a few hours in the evening for a romantic, quiet dinner or go to the casino for some gambling.
* You need an extra pair of hands during the day and need someone to join you and your family for the week, more like a nanny job.
* You need a sitter for naptimes in the day, so your child gets his/her rest and some time out of the sun, while you stay out on the beach or do water sports.
* You can also have your sitter a few hours in the day and have her return in the evening.
Babysitters are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including Holidays (special rates do apply for Holidays).
But why not make sure you have one of the better babysitters and book ahead?
Especially in High Season it will be hard for you to find a sitter on the spot who is professional and flexible and who will do extra kids activities to make it a fun day/evening experience for your child.
For being on an island you will be surprised to find out that it's hard to find a sitter who is willing to actually go IN THE WATER with your children or sit on the beach.
But it is not impossible!
You are the one who decides what you are comfortable with;- Have the babysitter stay in the room or indoors or have her take your child to the beach and in the pool.
